Psalm 103 inspires one of my favorite songs. There are 10,000 reasons for my heart to sing of God's blessings! It may seem like that is a lot, but when we slow down to notice what God has done for us, who He is, and how He continues to support and walk with us, there is so much more for us to be thankful for!
As we investigate what David is praising God for, we see that David had an understanding that his sin was forgiven before God. This impresses me because at that moment in history they had to continue the practice of animal sacrifices because their sins were merely covered until the Messiah came. Yet David demonstrates his faith when he says God "forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases…" (103:3).
Today, we have the benefit of looking back and seeing the cross and the one sacrifice that has paid for it all (Heb. 10:14). Jesus came, lived a perfect life to fulfill what we could never do, and then willingly went to the cross to take the punishment for our sins. And we rejoice that three days later he rose from the grave victorious! This is where we all can begin expressing our thanks and joy. We have life with God.
But there is so much more we can be thankful for. We notice God's character and are blown away by how good He is. We see His creation and agree that it is beautiful. We see God's movements in the world, and while we are sometimes confused by what comes, we are so thankful that He is in control.
So as we proceed through the Thanksgiving Season, let us give thanks to God for His character, His salvation, and His work in our lives.
We also take this time to support and encourage our missionaries who are sharing the Gospel of the Grace of God to the world. We are thankful for their service and how they are our hands and feet to places around the world where we are not able to minister. As a result, we dedicate our Thanksgiving offering to all the missionaries we support. The offering will be evenly distributed to all our missionaries as a year-end blessing. Thank you for your participation in sharing the Gospel of the Grace of God!
"Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all His benefits" (Psalm 103:1-2).
Bethesda Church is dedicated to Live, Teach, and Share the Gospel of the Grace of God in the spheres of influence God has given us.
